My son came home with a baby today...

Post by Lady Jayde on Fri Sep 04, 2009 6:06 pm

Shocked
I got home this evening and as I ascended the stairs I saw my son clumsily leaving his room. At first, I thought he had the vacuum and wondered why since he has wood floors. Then I realized that he was trying to maneuver a baby carrier and diaper bag through the doorway. After I caught my breath Shocked I realized that it was the electronic baby from his Health class. The child's name is Pookie, don't' know who named him, but they're not very bright. Anyway, "Pookie" is with us for the weekend (and I've already told my son that I AM NOT BABY SITTING FOR MY 13 YEAR OLD!) and he likes to cry, a lot when his needs aren't met. I kind of feel bad for my son because he had to go to football practice, but had to sit on the sidelines with "Pookie" as he is a single parent. I couldn't help but giggle at his seriousness about "watching everybody else have fun". I told him that that's exactly what will happen if he slips up and gets a girl pregnant; he'll get to sit on the sidelines and watch everybody else living their lives as his passes him by. So he's decided that he's not having a baby until he's done EVERYTHING that he wants to do in life.

I think Pookie and I will get along great! He is a cute little bugger...even if he is latex... Laughing

He's under 2 years old and he won't tell me what he wants, lol!

Though I don't think he'd be allergic and the chances of lasting damage are slim. Heck, I could probably paint him with exterior oil paint and he wouldn't complain...

I think a lovely shade of chartreuse in an exterior oil would be very flattering

Yeah. well that painting may come into fruition... that latext infant kept me up all night! Why you ask would a latex baby that I'm not baby sitting keep me up all night? Well, let me tell you. It's because my son has the paternal instincts of a serving spoon and despite the baby being in it's carrier, IN HIS BED 6 INCHES AWAY FROM HIM, he was sleeping through the cries every time "Pookie" got hungry or virtually pooped.

LOL I took a parenting class in high-school and I had to bring home the baby... I wasn't driving yet so it was loads of fun to carry him on the school bus! His name was Anden Eilke and I went into maternal mode when I had him... and would you believe my Mama asked me to let her hold him and take care of him once or twice? Laughing She kept joking about being a grandmother. It was an interesting project and I ended up with the highest grade in the class... felt terrible for the single guy in there with us. He was horrified!

Maybe you could tie a string on the baby's arm that you could pull and it would hit him in the face to wake him up! My kids had those! What a hoot. They had to take them to church--I made them stay outside so it wouldn't cry during the service!

I'm just enjoying watching him walk around like a zombie complaining about how the baby kept him up all night! Me and my husband both chimed in with a hearty "been there done that, twice!)

I have never seen anything like that. Back when I was in school we had to carry a raw egg. God forbid you dropped it after even one day of no refrigeration. LOL

Kinda cool though. Virtual poop? No way that has the effect of the real stuff!

My brother was born when I was 18. Thus, I am 31 and still no children. Got a taste of what parenthood was young. YUCK. No thanks. I love children, dearly, just don't want any yet.

I was the oldest of four... I was 8 when my brother, the baby, was born. I babysat him from day one... when he started walking he ran, and mom could NOT take him out with her shopping cause he would vanish... so, I stayed home with him for about 9 years...

I've changed diapers, fed, dealt with injuries... I'm done. Never had any maternal hankerings in my life.

Well, I stopped at 2, one of each, I've done my part to further the human race. Kids are awesome....
up until they start talking...then it's kind of touch and go.

UPDATE: After a harried weekend, Pookie is back in the custody of the health teacher and my son has a pretty good idea that his life will be forfeit if he brings home another baby, real or otherwise.

Sounds like it was a traumatic experience for him. Life changing realization, huh?

These computerized babies sound WAAAAYYY more effective than the egg babies or those empathy bellies they used to put on the guys!

I just know I could not do that sleep deprivation again!!! I was running into walls and afraid to drive on 3 and 4 hours of sleep (over months!!!)

I had one in high school too. Not too advanced..you just had to stick a turnkey in his back to shut it up. It was way less fun than a real baby..haha

I did the egg thing, I had twins and we had to poke a needle in the top and bottom and blow all the yolk out and carry them around for a week. The health teach would enroll the other teachers into kidnapping the babies and leave ransom notes for candy bars or archway oatmeal cookies or whatever if you left the babies alone at your desk while you went to sharpen your pencil!

My stepmom had 2 more girls when I was 13 and 15, so naturally I was the built in babysitter (as my stepmom called me) and I changed plenty of diapers, did baths, carried them around the mall in my overalls.

I had my own starting at 19 and 24, a girl first then a boy, and Logan just turned 5 wednesday. The best part is now that my little sisters are 14 and 16 and when I get to see them, they babysit for me now!!
