Updating my Batman

Post by Denise Cold on Thu Mar 08, 2012 5:14 am

I was looking through my comic book hero pictures and started working on batman because my version looked like a cat...or cat woman which is worse.

I'm very happy with it because it's so manly. I think the boys will love it. The first version is with the sunset and bat head and no scuffs. The second version only changed by adding a top to the helmet and some injuries.

Here's my old batman:

Here's the two versions of the "new" batman:

That would be great pjhamel, I'd love to see it.

I used my Brilliant Bling cake and it actually looks pretty cool but you're right, any warm cake makes it look fabulous. Should I keep the orange even if I do dark knight? I was thinking of just putting on the bat version?

I'm trying to update my full faces so they are more appealing and hopefully make me more money at fairs this year. I've got to get them down to 5 minutes though or they wont! Smile

I love this Batman! May be a silly question, but how did you do the shading on it? Did you just sponge white paint over the black base?

I believe it's DFX dark blue or I'll use Royal Blue sometimes. I sponge it on the highlight areas.

The boys will definitely love it. You've got a top 5 seller on your hands there! I think the splash of colour looks great and I would probably use it on either design. I offer a golden orange or a blue background for my batman. I like the idea of using a blue to highlight, but wondering if you use TAG because I find when going back over dry paint it tends to lift and blotch it.

The sponge is really pretty dry. It's a Wolfe Brothers technique for sure. It has be be as dry as you would use for stencils. There's no blending.

I hope it sells well. I did one on a boy (I think this one is the Royal Blue) and he really liked it.

denise, i love your work. Wondering if folks have a batman verson that leaves the eye area unpainted? I am worried about the difficulty keeping the paint out of eyes and the staining/difficult removal.
Has anyone a batman pic to show?

aussiemarie, most Batmen don't have their eyes done, I did this because its what a couple of boys requested because of the cartoon batman. I'm going to try Starblends next time.
