I have to confess, I am not the most careful when packing up after a gig--& certain stencils have catchy little spots that will bend if not cared for--but today while reorganizing my kit I tried the stinkers (the large cheetah spots & the swirly girly ones) between parchment paper with a flat iron & they are like new again!!

Paint behaving badly

Sun Jun 18, 2017 9:45 pm by PaisleyPeacock

I am having a number of issues with my paints that I looking for help to solve.
First- I use metallics for a base color to put under flowers. After a couple hours, the paint on top of the metallic fades. If I put dots, you can barely see them anymore. It's like the metallic is absorbing the color. What the heck? I am using mostly Paradise here, with occasional Wolfe or Kryvaline.
My neons have …

Signage for better tips

Thu Jun 01, 2017 9:28 pm by PaisleyPeacock

I've got at least one, possibly two regular restaurant gigs upcoming, and I'm thinking about how to set up signage. Right now, I have a tall sign with decorated words on it that I quite like. I have a couple of designs that are specific sizes, but mostly I let people pick small-medium-large of each design, and charge according to how big they want it. In this case, I'm being paid half my usual …

Contract disputes- help needed ASAP!

Tue May 23, 2017 11:27 am by PaisleyPeacock

Background: I contacted a large local Memorial Day Weekend event last year, the week after the event, asking about being a vendor next year. I was only hiring painters, not painting myself at this point, so I asked about henna and some other stuff. I have an email from 7/6 about this. I was asked to call back after the first of the year, as panning would happen then. I did. I asked for an …

Tips for working for tips!

Mon Jun 16, 2014 6:02 pm by Forest-Fairy

So i've been reading some newer and older threads in here, one in particular that was started back in 2009 and died in 2011. I've been reading some about how some painters just aren't making any tips, or that they NEVER work for tips because it's not worth it. I have some insights and I thought this might be a good idea for a new thread!

On to the meat and potatoes
Like i said I was reading how …

Rules for customers?

Tue May 09, 2017 1:08 pm by w054amk

What rules (if any) do you guys have set for your customers?

Some of ours are:

-Everyone gets painted once today
-We will not paint anyone that doesn't want to be painted
-Please wait to take photos after your child is painted

Any others would be appreciated. Thank you!

New restaurant gig, and working for tips

Fri May 12, 2017 12:46 am by PaisleyPeacock

OMGOMGOMG!!! I just got a restaurant kids' night gig. I am super excited! It's only once a month, but I hope to up it to twice that or weekly. They're paying half my usual rate plus a meal, and I get to put out a tip jar. I am hoping they will put my website out on their email blast, too, so this is a WONDERFUL introduction to the area! I need advice on a couple of things.
Right now, I have a …
